Student Experience Madrid Pozuelo, our sixth location, has received the BREEAM-ES Excellent certificate. This is our third location, following Amsterdam Minervahaven and Granada, to achieve this recognition.

Technical and sustainable solutions
To achieve the BREEAM-ES Excellent certificate, the following technical and sustainable solutions were applied to Student Experience Madrid Pozuelo:
  • To achieve a significant reduction in thermal cooling demands, several solutions were applied, including high-efficiency thermal insulation, high-quality carpentry, and double glazing with solar control.
  • Green areas have been set up on the plot and in the courtyard that promote biodiversity and serve as the building's thermal stabilizers. Native plant species with low irrigation requirements have been used. A 10 m³ rainwater collection tank is installed, with the harvested water later reused for irrigation.
  • Solar panels have been installed on the rooftop, providing the building with renewable energy throughout the year. 
  • An efficient LED lighting system has been installed, which uses movement detection and responds to outdoor light sources.

Organization
Student Experience is not only the developer of the building but also the manager and owner. To prepare the management organization as well as possible for the exploitation period, they were involved in the project. For example, they provided input for the layout and logistic routes.
Tips for the next project
It is recommended that for the next project, a BREEAM specialist is involved already at the very beginning of the project, during the Basic Project phase.
