What to do in Amsterdam during Pride week
Are you excited to celebrate the most colorful week of the year in Amsterdam? Because we are! Pride Week Amsterdam, also known as Gay Pride, will be held from August 1 until August 6, 2023, with the theme of this year being #YouAreIncluded. With the entire city wrapped in rainbows and love, there’s more than enough to do for everyone. For those unsure where to go, we’ve created a list of things you can’t miss.
Parties
Pride wouldn’t be Pride without the whole city full of people celebrating. Even if you don’t like to plan where to go, you will surely bump into a party at some point. The most visited parties are at the Reguliersdwarsstraat (also known as the gay party street) and Dam Square (main stage). If you’re into electronic music, FunHouse is the place to be with the best house and dance music all night. Check out all parties and street parties from the organizations behind Pride Amsterdam.
Canal Pride
Of course, the Canal Pride is the main event of this week. This world-famous boat parade starts at 12:00 at Oosterdok. It will go to Westerdok via Nieuwe Herengracht, Amstel, and Prinsengracht. Because – literally – everyone in Amsterdam wants to be here, make sure you look into the route beforehand and arrive as early as you can. You can bring your own food and drinks, but there will also be food trucks and bars along the route.
Art & Culture
If you prefer to keep it a little more low-key, check out the art events throughout the city. These events offer a platform for artists and creators from the LGBTQI+ community, allowing them to share their stories through creative expression. For lovers of theater and performance art, Ruis might be the place to go. If you like storytelling, check out Mezrab. Prefer a good movie? Definitely visit one of the Open Air Cinemas for the “Roze filmavonden” (Pink Movie Nights), where you can see a selection of LGBTQI+ films ranging from arthouse to documentaries.
Not in Amsterdam during pride week?
No worries! Many events already happen during Pride Month, which is in July. One of the most exciting events to visit is Milkshake Festival in Amsterdam Westerpark from the 28th until the 30th of July. This electronic dance festival is for all open-minded, open-hearted, and outgoing people. It offers various music genres and sensational performances.
Pride at the Beach is perfect for you if you can’t choose between sipping a margarita at the beach or dancing your heart out. From July 30 to August 1, you can enjoy the best of both worlds at various events in Zandvoort. We say: cheers to sunsets and rainbows!
