8 tips for a budget-friendly Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it is the perfect moment to express your love to a partner or to your friends! Treating them to a nice dinner or buying them a bouquet of roses is nice but expensive and - let’s be honest - a little bit cliché. If you really want to go all out this year with a budget-friendly Valentine’s Day, this article is for you.

Go hiking together

Going into nature is always a good idea! If you’re staying at Madrid Pozuelo, you can choose one of the many hiking trails in Casa de Campo. For those in Leiden, Het Panbos is the perfect location for a romantic walk. Those in Amsterdam can enjoy the beauty of Het Amsterdamse Bos or the tranquility of Het Twiske, which is a bit further out of the city.

Send a love letter

Receiving a handwritten card or love letter is one of the most exciting things on Valentine’s Day! So, why not send one to your friends or lover? Get a card at the post office or make one yourself. If you’re not so much of an artist, a simple piece of paper where you express your handwritten appreciation will do the trick, too.

Make a playlist for each other

Remember those songs you used to listen to when you just met? Or from that time you went on a holiday together? Ah, the nostalgia! Music can really take us back to different memories and is a great way to relive them. Make a playlist with all songs that remind you of the other person, and let them do that for you, too.

Watch a romantic movie

What’s a better way to spend a winter-y Valentine's Day than cuddling up together and watching a good movie? To stay in the Valentine’s mood, get yourself some strawberries and chocolate, a nice bottle of wine, and pick a romantic movie to watch.

Create a slide show

Whether you like to use PowerPoint or Canva, with this one, you can really get your creative juices flowing. Create a slide show with the best photos, videos, quotes, memories, and things you want to say and present it on Valentine’s Day!

Play board games

Everyone loves game night! Playing board games is the perfect way to spend a Valentine’s Day, whether it’s with friends or your lover. Most people have at least one board game or card game they can play to keep it budget-friendly. But for a small fee, you can also rent some fun games at the TULU Smart Rental Unit at your location :)

Cook or bake together

Instead of going for an expensive dinner, a more budget-friendly plan is to cook together! Look up some easy - yet fancy - dinner recipes, and purchase all the ingredients beforehand. Play a nice playlist (for example, the one you made yourself!) and make your studio cozy with some dimmed lights and flowers.

Be a tourist in your own city

You probably have some favorite spots or areas in your city. So why not explore a part that you haven’t been to before or that you don’t know so well? We’ve got a guide to discovering Leiden, some tips for exploring Amsterdam by bike, and an article to help you find the best rooftops in Madrid.
