How to beat the heat in Granada

Summer in Granada is great, but with temperatures soaring far over 30°C in the hottest months, it can get a bit intense. Don't sweat it, though - we've got you covered with the best ways to stay cool and make the most of your summer in this Andalusian city.

Explore the Alhambra's hidden gems

Sure, the Alhambra is Granada's must-see spot. But here's an interesting fact: it's also one of the (literally) coolest spots in Granada! Escape the hottest hours of the day by wandering through its shaded palaces and indoor galleries. For a truly magical experience, we recommend you visit it at night. Start your tour in the late afternoon to catch a beautiful sunset as the temperatures begin to lower. When the sun has set, you'll experience the magic of exploring the Nasrid Palaces and Generalife Gardens under the starry sky.

Walk along the Paseo de los Tristes

For a breezy walk that keeps you cool, stroll along the Paseo de los Tristes. This picturesque street runs along the Darro River. Because of that, you'll get to enjoy the river's humidity and freshness, making it a pleasant walk even on the hottest days. We recommend making a pit stop at Tabernilla del Darro for some wine and tapas. This cute tavern is the perfect place to relax with some friends.

Breathtaking hikes on the Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada isn't just for winter sports! During summer, you can explore the mountain range through various hiking trails. A great route is the trek up to Veleta, one of Spain's highest peaks. This 4-hour hike rewards you with breathtaking views and, on a clear day, you might even get a glimpse of Morocco on the horizon. Be well prepared and bring your hiking shoes, plenty (yes, plenty!) of water, and some snacks for this epic adventure.

Unwind at the Arab Baths

Soak up some of Granada's rich history with a visit to the Hammam al Ándalus. These Arab bath houses offer hot, warm and cold pools, a Turkish bath, and a relaxation room where they serve traditional tea. For the ultimate chill-out session, treat yourself to a soothing massage. This is the perfect way to relax and unwind during the summer heat.

A beach getaway to La Herradura

No summer in Granada is complete without a beach trip. One of our favorites is La Herradura, a beautiful Mediterranean paradise with crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming, diving, and snorkeling. After a day of fun in the water, try some delicious local seafood at Chiringuito Joaquin or Chiringuito El Bueno.
With these tips, you're all set to beat the heat in Granada and enjoy the city to the fullest. Have fun!
