Student tips for sparking new connections at Student Experience
In the spirit of Singles Day, we've asked our Student Experience residents some questions on our Instagram channels (NL | ES) about how they would approach their crushes, potential friends, or new neighbors and spark new connections at Student Experience. We’ve created this article using the answers so you can meet that special someone or expand your social circle. Good luck! <3
1. Slide into their DMs
Getting the conversation started can be as simple as sending a relatable meme or GIF. It's a low-pressure way to break the ice and show your sense of humor.
2. Get personal
Asking for someone's studio number or phone number might seem forward, but a hand-written love letter (or just a kind message) could be a thoughtful gesture. Just be sure to keep things classy and respect boundaries.

3. Start a conversation
Sometimes the direct approach is the best. Don't be afraid to simply walk up and say hello. It may surprise you, but a funny opener like "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" or "Do you come here often?" can work wonders. ;)
4. Host a speed dating/friending event
Organizing a speed dating or speed friending session in one of the complex's common areas is a fun way to meet lots of new potential connections in a structured setting. Ask your location's event committee to set it up or plan one yourself.

5. Join them for a meal
Are you seeing someone that you would like to chat with in the complex's courtyard, terraces, or restaurant? Pull up a seat next to them and start a conversation over lunch.
6. Challenge them to a game
Whether it's ping pong, pool, or darts, challenging someone to a friendly game is a great icebreaker that can lead to further conversations.

Remember that the key to meeting new people is to be confident; you've got nothing to lose. Be friendly and respectful, and you'll mingle like a pro in no time!
