Festive ways to celebrate during the holiday month December

The holiday season is often packed with fun activities you can do to make lasting memories with your friends and family. Whether you're feeling like doing cozy indoor activities or some outdoor fun, there are countless ways to make the most of this magical time of the year. In this article, we share our favorite festive ways to celebrate during the holiday month December.

Indoor activities

Movie marathons

Nothing says Christmas quite like a movie marathon of holiday classics. Invite your neighbors, get cozy under some blankets, and create a festive movie lineup that includes Home Alone, Elf, The Grinch, and a Christmas Carol.

Board games

Gather your friends, get some snacks, and play your favorite board games! If you don't have any, you can rent them at the TULU unit at your location. Bring out the competitive spirit with some classic and holiday-themed board games like Monopoly, Catan, or Scrabble!

(Cheese) fondue

(Cheese) fondue is one of those activities that's perfect for the holiday season. The interactive nature of fondue makes for a fun, social dining experience that guarantees an evening of fun and laughter. Organize it yourself in the private dining room or book a table at a fondue restaurant.

Christmas cookie decorating

Reserve the private dining room and host a cookie decorating party where everyone can bake sugar cookies together and decorate them in fun and festive ways. Get a couple of frostings and decorations so everyone can get creative. Eat them together (yum!) or package them as gifts for your neighbors or friends.

Outdoor adventures

Ice skating

Many cities set up outdoor ice-skating rinks during the holiday season, often with festive decorations, music, and typical snacks and beverages like mulled wine. It's the perfect activity for beginners and seasoned skaters, and is fun with friends and family, or even a date.

Christmas light tours

Explore your city differently during the holidays! Many neighborhoods have a totally different atmosphere because of the Christmas lights all around. Prepare thermos bottles of hot chocolate milk, dress warmly, and go out and about! In Amsterdam, the annual Light Festival turns the historic canals into an outdoor art gallery. In addition to the Christmas lights, you can view beautiful lit-up art installations all around the city center. In Madrid, special tour buses drive through the city to show you all the Christmas lights. Book a ticket here.

Holiday markets

Visit local Christmas markets where you can enjoy seasonal food and drinks, artisan products (that are perfect for gifts!), live entertainment and music, holiday performances, and overall festive vibes! In Madrid, you'll find holiday markets at Plaza de España, Plaza Colon, and Nuevos Ministerios near El Corte Ingles. In Granada, you can find them at Plaza Bib-Rambla, Puerta Real, and Palacio de Congresos. In Leiden, there's a Nostalgic Christmas Market (de Nostalgische Kerstmarkt), and in Amsterdam, you'll find the market on Museumplein from December 12 – 26.  Don’t forget to check the specific dates and times of the markets so you won’t be disappointed.

As you can see, there's something for everyone to enjoy during the holiday season. The most important thing is to create memories that you'll remember long after the decorations are packed away. Have fun!
