There’s nothing like a good, old school Christmas movie to get you in the mood. “Elf” remains the gold standard of holiday comedies. Meanwhile, "Home Alone" continues to prove that watching a child terrorize burglars never gets old. If you haven’t watched these at least once this season, are you even celebrating?  

Christmas rom coms that hit different 

“Love Actually” is a timeless classic and must-see. With multiple storylines, and all-star cast, and plenty of British charm to fill your winter break, you’ll surely love this movie (again, again, and again). “Bridget Jones’s Diary” is another great watch. While not strictly a Christmas movie, it opens and closes during the holiday season and features the iconic reindeer jumper. Plus, who can't relate to Bridget's New Year's resolutions and holiday family interrogations about your love life? 

Animation that worth your time 

Let’s be honest, you’re never too old to enjoy animated movies. It’s a great way to dive into the childlike spirit, leaving you in awe of the Christmas-y settings, each one even better than the last. Our personal favorite is “Klaus”, a Netflix original and a stunning visual masterpiece that completely reimagines Santa's origin story with gorgeous hand-drawn animation. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" remains the ultimate gothic holiday treat – perfect for those who can't decide between Halloween and Christmas vibes. And let’s not forget “The Polar Express”, one of the first animated Christmas movies using 3D techniques, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Prepare for lots of nostalgia!  

Fresh takes (for when you’ve watched all the good ones)  

Of course, there are plenty of new Christmas movies that are a great watch, from rom coms to Christmas action movies and more. But honestly, a lot of these are like the fast food of movies, leaving a bit of a funny taste after watching. While some recent releases offer genuine entertainment, many feel a little shallow and predictive.
