Winter-to-spring wellness tips for students

Winter was cozy, and we loved it. But honestly, after all the holiday festivities passed and the skies only showed a variety of shades of grey, we were kind of over it. There’s only so many Netflix marathons a person can handle before it all starts feeling a bit… meh.

Now that spring is officially here, it's time to step into the new season feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to bloom. Still feeling a little stuck in hibernation mode? We've got you. Here's how you can take care of yourself as the seasons change:

Wake up with the sun

Okay, we're not saying set your alarm for sunrise – we all like to sleep in! But now that the mornings are brighter, it's easier to ditch the snooze button and get your day started with some energy. Try opening your curtains first thing and letting the sunlight wake you up; it's nature’s caffeine!

Your morning checklist:

  • Place your phone further away so you can't snooze
  • Open your curtains as soon as you wake up—let the light in
  • Spend 5–10 minutes easing into the day before checking your phone

Move your body

Have you been hibernating this winter (i.e.: skipping those ClassPass workouts and taking public transport instead of cycling)? Well, spring is the perfect time to get back into movement. Remember: sunshine + endorphins = instant mood boost.

Add these moments of movement to your week:

  • Try a new sports class, like HIIT, reformer pilates, or hot yoga (check our event calendar!)
  • Take the scenic route to uni, by foot or bike if you can
  • Use the pomodoro technique for studying, and stretch during the break instead of scrolling

Spring cleaning

For many of us, spring naturally motivates us to deep clean our living spaces. Declutter, dust, clean, and vacuum to make your studio fresh and spring ready. Throw a little Marie Kondo in there so you can organize your stuff (digitally and physically) and seriously reset your brain. A clean home creates a clear mind, and therefore, less stress when exams are around the corner. :)

Not sure where to start? Check these off first:

  • Wash your bedsheets and open your windows
  • Unfollow accounts that drain your energy + unsubscribe from emails that drain your wallet
  • Wipe down your main surfaces: desk, shelves, kitchen counter

Soak up that Vitamin D!

A little sun goes a long way. Even if you don't have a lot of time next to your busy study schedule, even 15 minutes outside can help regulate your mood. Have your coffee outside, take a walking or stretching break, or just sit and vibe in the sun. You'll feel better in no time

Here's how you can incorporate some more sunny moments into your day:

  • Sit outside with your morning coffee or tea
  • Invite a friend or neighbor for a lunch or sunset walk
  • Move your study spot closer to a window

Switch up your routine

Reminder: Nothing changes if nothing changes. If you're not feeling your current schedule (or if winter has left you a little groggy), it's time to refresh your routine. Instead of starting your day with scrolling and a coffee, try out journaling or reading and a cup of tea or matcha. See in which areas you'd like to evolve, and how you can make a little effort into becoming a better person in that area. Small changes, big impact.

Some ideas for switching up your routine this week:

  • Try out a new study spot for a day
  • Start your day with music or journalling instead of scrolling
  • Say “yes” to spontaneous hangouts or coffee catchups!

Remember that spring is the season of blooming! By changing small habits in your daily routines, you'll automatically feel refreshed. Good luck!
