5 study snacks the community swears by

Whether you're deep into exam prep or just trying to get through your daily reading list, one thing is universal: snacks make everything better. Some students reach for caffeine, others need something sweet (or savory, or sour...), but the goal is always the same: keeping the brain fueled.

We asked our community, and here are 5 of the most popular study snacks students eat during study time.

1. Dark Chocolate

This one's a crowd favorite for a reason. Dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and a touch of caffeine, giving your brain just the right nudge without the jitters. It’s the perfect balance: satisfying, slightly bitter, and just sweet enough to feel like a reward.

2. Kaasbroodje

If you’ve never had a kaasbroodje, imagine this: flaky puff pastry filled with warm, melty cheese. Yes, it’s as dreamy as it sounds. This Dutch snack is beloved for a reason: it’s comforting, filling, and easy to heat up between study sessions. Eat it as a quick lunch or a savory pick-me-up during your afternoon slump. Just don’t plan on stopping at one.

3. Surströmming

Some like their snacks with a kick. And then some go all the way to fermented fish. Surströmming, a traditional Swedish delicacy, is infamous for its intense smell, but a few die-hard fans in the community swear by it, though it's probably best enjoyed far from any shared study space, unless your goal is to have it all to yourself.

4. Red Bull

When deadlines are coming  closer and caffeine is non-negotiable, Red Bull is the way to go. Whether you love the taste or tolerate it for the energy boost, this classic study drink is here to stay. It’s portable, powerful, and helps you push through that last chapter at 2 AM.

5. Autodrop Cadillacs

These aren’t your average gummy candies. Shaped like tiny vintage cars, Auto Drop Cadillacs are fruity, chewy, and surprisingly addictive. Some are sweet, some are sour, and a few even have that weird salty licorice flavor Dutch people love (and everyone else pretends to understand).

Snacks might not pass your exams for you, but they do make the process a whole lot better. Whether you’re reaching for chocolate, cheese, caffeine, or even fermented herring, the right snack can keep you going through long nights and early mornings.
