Getting back to your uni-routine like a pro

Classes, assignments, and deadlines: heading back to university after a long summer break can be overwhelming. But with the right mindset (and a few clever tricks), you’ll get back into your routine like you never left. Here’s how:

1. Plan, but stay flexible

Write down your lectures, deadlines, and events in a planner or app of choice. Make it visual: color coding can make even your most intimidating timetable look manageable.  Each day, pick your top three priorities and stick to them. And don’t forget: you’re a human, not a robot. Leave some breathing space in your schedule for unexpected things (because they always happen).

2. Build a social routine

Your academic year isn't just about study and focus (although, yes, that will take up a lot of your time). Making time to laugh, vent, and relax with friends is just as important as finishing that essay. It will help you recharge so you're more productive when you need to be. Pro tip: check Student Experience's event calendar to join fun events on location and meet your neighbors.

3. Reset your food habits

Food = brain fuel! Keep it simple by stocking up on staples like pasta, rice, eggs, and frozen veggies. Prepare a big batch when cooking so you can eat two or three times. Batch grocery-shopping and cooking saves time, money, and stress! You can even turn your mealtime into a social moment: invite a neighbor to share a meal! That way, you'll kill two birds with one stone: dinner ready and social time sorted.

4. Prioritize your well-being

Treating yourself well is always non-negotiable. Take a daily walk, bike to class, join a sports class, or just stretch in your studio. Try to get enough sleep so you won't feel like a zombie in your 9 AM lecture, and have a moment of mindfulness every day, whether it's through journalling, meditation, or just a mindful breath.

5. Create mini rewards

Motivate yourself by sprinkling mini rewards throughout your week. Did you finish that tough assignment or survived a day packed with classes? Treat yourself to a movie night, grab a drink with a friend, or do something that simply makes you feel good.
