With summer around the corner, everyone is looking to get in their best shape or… maybe you are the type of person that just enjoys having a healthy lifestyle and working out whenever you can. Whatever the reason, finding the student friendly gyms in Madrid can be challenging and overwhelming, especially as foreigner, so let us make your search a bit easier!
Affordable gyms for students
If you look to train on a budget, Basic Fit is one of the top choices in Madrid, offering affordable monthly subscriptions and multiple locations around the city making your traveling time more convenient from wherever you live. It provides all the essential equipment, functioning training areas, group lessons, and many other benefits depending on your membership.
Another popular option is VivaGym, with offers competitive pricing and modern facilities as well. While slightly more varied in quality depending on location, it remains a strong alternative for those seeking value for money.
If your schedule doesn’t allow you long term commitments, ClassPass is a great alternative. You buy credits and use them as frequently as you please to multiple facilities around Madrid and not only, from sport to beauty and wellness, ClassPass has them all.
A little tip for you: at our Student Experience Madrid Pozuelo residence we have our own gym (residents only) included in your monthly rent. So, if you want to save up, come live with us, work out for free, and take advantage of all the other amazing facilities we provide.
Student discounts and offers
Although Spain does not always advertise student discounts widely, some gyms in Madrid do offer promotions for students, especially during enrollment periods. Chains like Basic-Fit frequently run special deals such as reduced first-month rates or discounted sign-up fees. Independent gyms near universities may also offer flexible pricing if asked directly.
English-friendly group fitness classes

For international students, language can be an important factor. While not that budget friendly, premium and boutique gyms tend to offer more English-friendly environments. Facilities such as LOONA Fitness Experience and We/On Palacio Santa Ana are known for their modern, international atmosphere and group classes where English is commonly spoken or understood.
Some VivaGym locations in central areas also host instructors who can communicate in English, making them accessible for non-Spanish speakers. To avoid confusions, make sure to call beforehand if they have an English trainer on your preferred day.
ClassPass also provides a lot of English taught lessons, so make sure to check out the “Languages spoken" info in the studio description.
24/7 gyms
True 24/7 gyms are not very common in central Madrid, but many gyms offer extended opening hours. Basic-Fit locations often provide long access times, and some clubs operate in a near-24/7 style depending on membership type. Premium gyms such as We/On locations also tend to have longer opening hours compared to standard facilities.
Membership contracts and what to know
Gym memberships in Madrid are generally flexible, with many offering monthly subscriptions rather than long-term contracts. However, it is important to check cancellation policies carefully, as notice periods can range from 7 to 30 days. Some gyms may also charge a small registration fee, typically between €10 and €30.
Promotional prices are common, but they may increase after the initial period, so reading the terms before signing up is essential.
We’ve made the list; you make the choice. Pick a gym that fits your lifestyle, stay consistent, and make the most of your time in Madrid.
