How to use a shared bike in Amsterdam?

Don't want to spend a significant amount on a bicycle all at once? You don't have to! In Amsterdam, you have many options for using shared bikes. A shared bike is also ideal if your parents or friends visit. This way, you can enjoy a pleasant ride through the city together.

TULU bikes at Minervahaven   

In the bicycle shed at Minervahaven, you find 45 TULU city Swapfietsen and 5 e-bikes. You can rent the city bikes for free and the electric bikes for a small fee.    

How to rent a TULU bike?  

  • Download the TULU app and sign up.  
  • Choose any available bike. Scan the QR code on the handlebar. Tap ‘Rent’ to start.  
  • Jump on your bike, have fun and stay safe. 
  • Your ride will end automatically when you return your bike to the bicycle shed. Please plug any e-bike rented into the charging station.   

Hely e-bikes at Minervahaven  

Hely offers 4 e-bikes exclusively to Student Experience residents in the bicycle shed of the building. The bikes are easily booked in the Hely app for a fixed hourly fee, with no hidden costs.    

How to use these Hely bikes?   

  • Download the Hely app in the App Store or in the Google Play store
  • Sign up in the app.
  • Scan the QR code on the bike.   
  • Bring the vehicle back to the hub, lock up and tap 'End Ride'.

The first ride is on Hely! They'll give you 10 euro credit on signing up. Do you have any problems? Hely is happy to assist you through the chat in the app. 

Swapfiets   

Swapfiets is a bike membership. That means for a low, fixed monthly fee, you get a Swapfiets, and they make sure it always works. Is there a problem along the way? Hit them up via the app, and they'll fix or swap it for a new one in 48 hours or less. This way, you always have a working swap bike for a fixed monthly amount. Decide which bike is right for you, such as a powerful e-Bikes or the classic Deluxe or Original. Pick up your bike in one of our stores or opt for free at-home delivery.   

Donkey Republic  

You can rent the orange Donkey Republic bicycles for 8 euros per day. Download the app, book a bike and ride into town. In the app, you rent a bike for an hour, 12 hours, or several days. Ideal if you need a bicycle for a short period or if you want to be sustainable and don't want to own too much stuff.  

OV bike   

An OV bicycle is ideal if you visit another city for a day or if a friend visits you. You can rent an OV bicycle at many stations for €4.15 per bicycle per 24 hours. You can find them via "Nearby" in the NS app. And did you know that you can rent 2 bikes with one (free) subscription? You only need a personal OV chip card. You put the free public transport bicycle subscription on this. You can rent an OV bike at almost 300 rental locations throughout the Netherlands: at many stations, bus or metro stops and P+R areas.
