Finding your way around Granada by public transport

By foot 

The most recommended and practical way is walking or cycling, especially in the city center or historic center. You can enjoy the views and discover corners along the way that do not appear in any tourist guide.  The city offers plenty of free tours through which you can explore every corner of it. By bicycle 

Along with walking, cycling is the second most recommended option to move around Granada, especially if you want to explore the historic center. Of course, you must have your own bicycle since the city of Granada does not yet have a bicycle rental service on an occasional basis.   

By public transport 

Public Transport Card  

The Public Transport Card used in Granada is called Credibus. As a student, the one you would be most interested in is the Credibus Universitario, which is valid on all Granada city bus lines. It costs 2€ to obtain and you can recharge it whenever you want on any city bus in Granada.  Recharges are made in multiples of €5. One trip costs €0.31, so with a €5 voucher you can travel 16 times on Granada's city buses. It's the easiest, fastest and cheapest option! To compare: a regular ticket will cost you €1.40.  

The requirements to apply for the Credibus Universitario are:  

• You're under 25 years old 
• You're a university student 
• You're not registered in Granada city.  

You can apply for it at the secretary's office of your faculty, and it is valid for 5 years, so be sure to keep it safe!  

Metro ligero 

Granada's metro is the easiest in the world, and that's no joke. It is a single line that crosses the city from north to south in less than 1 hour. That's all there is to it. It has 26 stops and only two of them are underground, so you can enjoy the spectacular views of the city. The closest Metro Ligero station to the Student Experience residence in Granada is only 500 meters away and is called Parque Tecnológico. For information about all the stops and routes click here.  

The price of a regular ticket is 1.35€, but it is cheaper to buy a voucher. You can do it at the ticket machines at each metro stop. We’ll tell you about the different types:  

• Bono Multiviajes: With this card, you can go wherever you want! To start, you can opt for an amount of €5, €10, or €20. You can top up your card with a minimum of €5, which will allow you to make 15 trips. 

• Bono Mensual de 30 días: This personal and non-transferable pass will allow you to make an unlimited number of trips for 30 days from the first validation, for only € 16. Requesting this ticket can be done by e-mail (info@metropolitanogranada.es) or at one of the customer service offices by filling out an application form.  

• Bono Turista: If you simply want to use the metro for a sightseeing tour of the city, you can opt for this voucher for 1 full day of unlimited travel for 4.50 €. But beware, the card is non-transferable, and the metro does not reach the historic center and does not cover most of Granada's tourist attractions. 

High speed train  
The high speed train that operates in Granada is known as AVE, from the company RENFE. It is very efficient as it allows you to travel to other cities in Spain such as Cordoba, Malaga, Seville or Madrid in the blink of an eye. It is a bit more expensive than the other options, but good news! If you are a student you can opt for the Plus 10 Card which gives you a 50% discount on 10 round trips. It is non-transferable and you can buy it at station ticket offices or travel agencies. 

By taxi 

Local taxi 
Taking the taxi in Granada is a comfortable, fast and - believe it or not - economical option. A taxi crossing Granada from one end to the other will cost you somewhere between €15 and €20. Uber  
With Uber, it's easy to get around Granada even if you don't have a car. Simply decide which area you want to visit and request a ride at any time. Open the Uber app, enter your destination and start exploring Granada. 

By car 

Getting around Granada by car is a fast and safe option, especially if you want to take a trip to the outskirts of the city or to the beach. There are six car rental companies in Granada; two at Granada Airport, three at the Train Station and two in other parts of the city.
