How to create a closer community in your Student Experience complex

Living in a well-kept, comfortable student residence is a great experience. However, to truly feel at home, it takes more than just nice surroundings. Connecting with the people around you is equally important. If you’re living at Student Experience, you have the best opportunity to create a welcoming environment and make tons of good friends. And your contribution is as valuable as anyone else’s. Want to know how to help create a closer community in your complex? Here are some simple and effective ways to get started.

1. Share a smile or say hello

Kindness doesn’t always have to come in the form of big gestures. A friendly and welcoming community begins with the smallest actions, like acknowledging the people you pass in the hallway. Next time you see a neighbor, share a smile or say hello. The worst thing that can happen? They don’t respond. And that’s not too bad, is it? Offering a friendly greeting sets a positive tone and encourages others to do the same, making both you and your neighbors feel seen.

2. Get involved in your complex

At Student Experience, there’s always something going on. Each month, we organize events to bring residents together in a fun and engaging way. Why not join in? Participating in these gatherings is an easy and enjoyable way to meet new people and build relationships with your neighbors. Plus, you can encourage others to get involved too, which strengthens the sense of community even more. If you’re feeling ambitious, why not organize an event yourself?

3. Utilize the WhatsApp Community or Facebook Group

These days, building connections doesn’t require face-to-face interactions. Make the most of the online tools available in your complex by getting active in the WhatsApp or Facebook groups. You can find the groups on the For Residents page of your location. This way, you’ll have easy access to your neighbors to organize a meet-up or activity whenever you like. Don’t know where to start? You can suggest a hangout in the lounge, a game of ping pong in the game corner, or even a potluck dinner in the dining room.

4. Be open to diversity

One of the greatest things about living in a place like Student Experience is the diversity of people you get to meet. With residents from all over the world, each person brings a unique background, culture, and perspective. This is your chance to learn from others and be curious about their experiences and stories. Being open to different cultures helps create a more inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.

5. Help each other out

One of the simplest ways to create a supportive community is by lending a hand when you see someone in need. Hold the door open for someone carrying their groceries, help your neighbor who’s struggling to unlock their bike, or ask your friends whether they’re doing okay. These small acts can go a long way! By actively looking out for each other, you make people feel supported and connected.
